Originating in China over 5,000 years ago, acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine used to prevent, diagnose and treat disease, as well as to promote health and well-being. This is done by inserting very fine needles at precise points, with the purpose of modifying the flow of energy (Qi or Chi) through the body.
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO), acupuncture has proven effective in the treatment of many common problems including those listed below:
At the initial appointment the acupuncturist interviews the client and assesses the condition to determine the best course of treatment. Our treatment uses sterile, disposable needles, placed at various points on the body. The client should feel comfortable during the treatment. Acupuncture treatments may be accompanied with other therapies such as tuina, shiatsu, raindrop technique, e-stim, cupping, guasha, essential oils, Kinesio taping as well as prescription of Chinese herbs.
Sports injuries, orthopedic and work related injuries are assessed by postural analysis, manual muscle testing and Western medical findings if available, as well as the regular Chinese Medicine assessment (interview, pulse, tongue, etc). The treatments include Motor Point needling, corrective exercises, and topical medicinal applications along with the traditional Chinese medicine treatment.
